Risks of Removing Braces Early

One of the slow but completely safe methods of beautifying yourself is in the form of straightening your teeth through getting braces. But chances are, once the braces are on, no matter how good a doctor your Makati dentist is, it will not be enough for you to not feel discomfort or pain while the braces are on. Oh, and they’ll be on. For at least 18 months.

And it’s exactly because of this cycle of discomfort of getting braces adjusted, experiencing pain, having difficulty eating, coping with the pain, getting comfortable eating again, then finding out a month has passed and you need to get your braces tightened again and again that some people back out halfway through the treatment and get their braces removed prematurely.

What should you expect when you get braces on and have them taken out earlier than expected (aside from never being able to refund your initial down payment)?

After 2 Weeks

Not much would have already happened. It is likely that you’ll feel discomfort especially since the initial force to realign the teeth have been applied, but it is also very likely that after a week or two after premature removal, the teeth would have returned the same state it was before the braces were put on.

After 2 Months

Taking the braces after two months or in between 2-8 months could be very risky for your teeth. It’s going to be very likely that your Makati dentist is going to advise you against it.

The teeth could possibly relapse and go back to the previous state if not go rogue and situate itself in a far worse position in your mouth. The teeth could also tip—they might try to overcompensate to fill in gaps in your gums on their own in an unguided manner; more so if you had premolar removed before getting braces. Some teeth may also super erupt, i.e., teeth from above will grow out some more to fill a gap on its bottom counterpart or vice versa.

After a Year

12 months after initially getting braces, it is more likely that your teeth have adjusted a fair amount already, enough to have a permanent difference, but not quite enough to have completely aligned rows of teeth. Also, this is dependent as well on how well you take care of your teeth as well as making sure you don’t miss any appointments with your Makati dentist. You might also be required to wear retainers for at least 6 more months just to make sure that your teeth don’t go wayward and end up worse off.
